Happy New Year!
Ten years ago, I was a 17-year-old girl getting ready to graduate from high school and planning to go to college for musical theater. I dreamed of becoming ‘Jacki DiCarlo, world-renowned actress and singer.’ I was a few months into what I would later discover to be an emotionally abusive relationship. I was dealing with toxic former friends and learning what real friendship means. I wouldn’t talk about some of the things that interested me, for fear of being made fun of.
Today, I am 27, living in Manhattan with an awesome roommate, and working as an associate editor at an academic publishing company. I am happily single (but I’m not closed-minded about it, mom, don't worry). I have the most solid, secure friendships I’ve ever had 🌼. Most importantly, I’m finally becoming more confident in who I am and what I enjoy doing.
The 2010s saw me through the end of high school, college, healthy and toxic relationships of all kinds, career changes, cross-country moves, identity crises, and self-acceptance. I cannot wait to see what the 2020s will bring.
In order to start the ‘Roaring 2020s’ on the right foot, here are a few of my goals for this year:
Further define and refine my brand
Complete and develop ongoing creative projects
Increase my blog post frequency and social media presence
Reach conversational or business proficiency in Italian
Find an exercise routine that works for me and stick to it
Cook more (healthy) meals at home, and bring lunch to work most weekdays
Find a new activity to try or group to join in the city
Live a more eco-friendly lifestyle - try to use less plastic and paper, repurpose or recycle items, etc.
Cosplay again!
